Hi Einsamer,
The Anatomy of the Ship shows a drawing of a Type VIIB conning tower with the air intake mounted against the attack scope housing. It shows the Type VIIC without it. As if to say, Type VII towers had it and Type VIICs did not. That's the only bit of info I have to say for sure. You have to watch those WEM instructions, they also say that the CT should have 4 step rails up the side and not 3. I only see 3 step rails on Type VIICs. They are a little vague.
I know that the modeller's name is Jiri and he posts seldomly on armorrama.com. Great references.
