Right. If you're scratch building your scope housings, you're probably going to cut those shafts off anyway. So, no need to drill holes. However, you'll want to put something in place of the sky scope "sheath". It was outside of the water tight conning tower and could be seen through the main free flood vent.

You're right about not seeing much. But I like knowing that it's there and not having to build one. Although my next boat, I may build one myself.
