I had a display box tailor made for my Revell 1/72... the display box costed me about 3 times the price of the sub and after market products! But I think it's worth it.
As to the decals, after painting I always spray paint the areas where decals go on with a diluted Tamiya X-22 (gloss), let it dry for 24 hours minimum, then apply the decals and spray paint again with X-22, dry for 24 hours, then spray paint with a thinned "Hobby Clear" H20 Flat Clear. This process not only seals the decals, but also makes the decals looks as if they have been painted on. Of course, it also depends on the thickness of the decals, i.e. the thinner the better the result.
