Hi Don,
Sure, but Germany didn´t have a radar you talked about. The problem was that the "Hohentwiel" radar had good results in the Luftwaffe but the "Hohentwiel" for U-Boats had a smaller antenna (otherwise it wouldn´t have fit to the bridge). So the results on sea weren´t so good because of the small antenna and the low height (only a few meters above surface). And detecting a target was difficult. The german radar didn´t have a panel with panoramic view like the english ASV (I think). So I think that the detecting an aircraft by radar wouldn´t be better than with an "FuMB" like Metox, Naxos...
The range would be nearly the same. I think the german radar wasn´t efficient enough for the use you described.
