The telephone conversations were tapped under a project assigned to an Engineer named Vetterlein. His reports went to Himmler, who then provided them directly to Hitler, bypassing the Wehrmacht, Kriegsmarine, and even the Abwehr. However, no u-boat was involved. It was done by using an extremely sensitive antenna in Holland. (I\'m not sure I understand how transatlantic wire transmissions get picked up by an antenna in Holland. Must have been some antenna!) The conversations were scrambled by AT&T, and Vetterlein figured how to unscramble them.
