Note this was radiotelephone interception, not cable. Kurt E. Vetterlein of Reichpost was the engineer. [The first trans-Atlantic telephone cable was in the mid-1950's..]
While Reichpost broke the A-3 encryption; they didn't succeed with its successor, SigSaly [www.nsa.gov]
