Thanks for your kind words.
Think of the intakes as two rather large pipes - one inside the other. The outer one only goes down to the tower footing and is open above the pressure hull. The inner one comes up from the blower housing in the \"Zentrale\" and engine room and has a overlapping cap on top. So rain and spray water are deflected from the inner \"air\" pipe and runs down the outer one draining into the sea. Occasionally, when shipping green breakers over deck, the outer pipe could fill and not drain fast enough, that one gets a rather unwelcome shower under deck. This would be a reminder to the CO to call down his watch (half drowned by now), dive the boat and give every one a rest from the wild ride on the surface.
