While a larger boat may be a bit easier to see, this wouldn\'t have played a major role. The US fleet boats, while larger than the Type VIIC, were about the same size as a Type IXD2, and smaller than a Type XIV.
Again, the Pacific theater saw much more shallow water sub operations, and the sea in many places was much clearer, and the wave heights lower, than in the North Atlantic.
