Derya,

The Soviet kilo class is credited with being armed with the SA-N-8 (Gremlin). The missiles are clustered around a mast on the sail and can be launched while the sub is underwater...i assume they would be very handy for shooting down any
ASW helicopters which were hanging around. Range would be about 5-6km.

The Israeli 'GAL' class sub (Type 540...a smaller version of the German Type 209
optimised for mediteranean conditions and bulit by Vickers Shipbuilding) was also fitted with SAM missiles. The mounting was similar as in the Kilo only in this case the missiles were reported to be 'Blowpipe' missiles.

The Royal Navy also fitted one of the Oberon class subs with a similar 'Blowpipe'
fitting as the Type 540, but only for trial purposes.

I hope this helps...

Sniper.
