No not at all as a matter of fact ,most boat commanders did practice runs on their way to the boats asigned patrol area.and the reason was most capt. need to know his crew and boats extreme limits and how well they both could holdup while under attack.most boat when coming off patrol had to refit parts and crews ,so it was important that all boats test and dive before patrol.Nothing worse than not know your limits during crisis.
