Hi all,
Question: I notice in the previous information that the sub had sufficient air reservoir capacity to blow all tanks at a depth of 180 feet.
What happened if the sub was way down at, say, 900 feet? If it wanted to surface, did it have to manoeuvre up from the depths on motors to a shallow depth at which it could blow the tanks?
If so, then presumably if the sub lost motive power at depth, then the crew were doomed, as they would be unable to motor up to a shallower depth at which they could blow the ballast tanks?
Sorry if this question sounds dumb, but I am just an interested amateur here. I've never seen this point made clear in submarine "thrillers".
kindest regards,
Malcolm.
