rudder control

How did they control the rudders in a type 7 ?
Was the machine(s) that moved them placed inside the presure hull , and conneceted to the rudders and planes with rods , or was the machine(s) placed outside the presure hull ?I know it may spund like a stupid question , but i don´t have any design plans and this question keeps returning to my head (pretty irretating when i am at work)
