Hi, Sip7 and RB,
More modern submarines have the hydraulic pistons outside the pressure hull, thus eliminating the need for stuffing boxes for the rudder, dive planes, torpedo tube doors, etc.
In fact, the hydraulic systems on modern vessels are quite sophisticated, and have to provide various pressures for quite a few diverse tasks, such as raising and lowering periscopes, masts, as well as powering deck winches and winches for torpedo handling within the pressure hull.
