That is a perfect example of the limited thinking capacity pervading the high brass of just about any navy. The old proverb still holds true - "The farmer does not eat what he does not grow." (Loose transl. from German)
I believe it was 1932, when HNMN subs were starting to be equipped with the snort. Dutch submarine developement was a leading factor before as well as after WW2. Bigger navies just like to ignore the smaller players, which does not mean that the other guy has the inferior equipment. Rgds, RB
