In the book SHINANO! by Captain Joe Enright, page 183, the ship sank in 4000 meters of water. I've been through that area on the USS Gudgeon SS-567 back in the 60's and don't remember if the depth in that area was really over 13,000 feet deep. Any thoughts? I haven't been able to dig up any bottom contour charts via the internet.
