The beer, could it be a nice "icy cold" dark beer.
Theoretically, the formula includes hours of running (Grams/HP/HR), thus if part of the load is dedicated to a purpose other than propulsion, does it not affect the consumption per mile?
That is, an engine loaded fully but 50% to propulsion and 50% to battery charging, ought not be as efficient as the same engine fully loaded but dedicated to propulsion. That is true if efficiency is in terms of the propulsion of the ship.
If we are making laboratory measurements of a static engine, the where the power goes is no longer relevant.
