I am unaware of any "special procedures" to prevent the bending or other damage to the bow planes.
Neither am I aware of any abnormal number of mishaps, although such damage can happen.
Most sailboats have hulls that are wider amidships that at either end, and face the same problems. Normal procedures for bringing two boats alongside one another deal with the problem, so I doubt it presented any significant concern to seasoned seamen.
Do you have something more specific in mind?
