RN Escort Carrier Identification

I am trying, on behalf of an aquiantance, to identify a particular Royal Navy, US built, escort carrier that departed from New York in July 1944 on its' maiden trip across the Atlantic to the UK. The carrier may have accompanied either convoy CU31, which departed New York on 10 July 44, or HX299, which departed New York on the 11 July 44. The carrier in question did not have its Royal Naval Air Squadron embarked for the trip, so I doubt is was classed as a part of the escort, but may have been used to ferry aircraft or other material from the States to the UK. The vessels arrival port in the UK was Liverpool.
The convoys identified above are the two most likely candidates, as they tie in with known dates. However the vessel I am seeking may have made the crossing independently, in another convoy which may have sailed in mid-July 44 or she may have sailed with a naval group rather than in a merchant convoy.
Any help or ideas that readers can provide would be most gratefully received.
