Roger Holywood has provided the following information which identifies the Escort Carrier as HMS ARBITER which departed New York on 10 July 1944 in Convoy CU31 arriving in Liverpool on 22 July 1944. The record that Roger supplied showed the following detail which may be of some interest to readers.

23 June 1944 - sailed from UK in Convoy UC27
3 July 1944 - left convoy in company with USS Simms and Chiwawa
4 July 1944 - arrived Hampton Roads and proceeded to Peir 7 (Naval Operating Base)
4 July 1944 - embarked 65 boxes of Secret Armament Stores
5 July 1944 - embarked 1820 NAS Flying Personnel
6 July 1944 - embarked 1820 NAS aircraft (9 Helldivers), Squadron Maintenance Personnel, 2 cases of TBF mainplanes and one Cadillac car (who this was for would be interesting to find out especially as it seems to have taken presidence over the embarkation of the full load of cargo aircraft.
7 July 1944 - embarked cargo aircraft (44 Hellcats, 7 Corsiars and 2 Martlets) - proceeded to New York
8 July 1944 - alonside 35th Street Pier Brooklyn. Embarked passengers (11 women, 7 children, 21 boys, 76 Ratings and 2 Officers)
10 July 1944 - proceeded to UK in Convoy CU31
23 July 1944 - "Secret Armamanet Stores" handed over to Armament Stores Representative and passengers disembarked.
24 July 1944 - Squadron and cargo aircraft disembarked.

Can anyone help to identify who the Cadillac ended up with!!!
