My father was on the Devis when sunk, you have his name and e-mail. The crew of the ship were told by the army officers. If the ship were to be torpedoed all you needed to do was climb in to one of the L/C’s and float away as the ship goes down. He and fellow mates thought nuts to that they’ll sink with the ship. When the ship was hit crew knocked the turnbuckles off of the one L/C forward of the bridge the other was untouched and remained chained down to the deck . When the ship went down one went with the ship and the other floated off with no one in it as they all did not trust the thing to stay afloat and no one knows where it went off to. The survivors were picked up on a US destroyer and were sailed out to open water and kept there to be sure the landing plans were kept secret.
