Ahh, finally,
I was having trouble getting here all day long.
The original research was done by US historian Vernon J. Miller, the result of his delving into the NARA files were published by the quarterly magazine "Warship", the loss of Pompano being in Vol. XII page 46.
The original Japanese documents are in the National Archives in Washington, any info presented on Pompano's loss is derived from them.
