Which U Boat Sank USS San Diego off Fire Island?

<HTML>Could someone please tell me which U Boat sank the US armored cruiser USS San Diego?

Facts I know are that it was mined off Fire Island (off Long Island, New York) on or about 18 July 1918. I think it was a mine laid by U Cruiser U 156.

Does anybody have the U cruisers' records of their war efforts in US waters in WW1?

My grandfather served on the USS San Diego, but was put off @ its last port stop of Portsmouth, NH due to illness (seasickness). It was on its way to New York to pick up another convoy to escort it into the North Atlantic.

Thanks for your help!
