USS New York v. U-Boat

<HTML>In "U.S. Battleship Operations in WWI" by Jerry Jones the author states that the USS New York probably collided with a submerged U-boat transitting the Pentland Firth 14 Oct 1918. When docked the BB showed a large dent in the bottom of the hull and lost two blades from a prop. At the time she was steaming in the fairway of a 33 fathom channel with no known obstructions. Jones mentions the possibilities UB-113 and UB-123. Standard sources (including this site) give fates as disappeared after leaving base 14 Sept, and likely mined in the Northern Barrage 19 Oct, respectively. The description of UB-123's ops in "U-Boat Intelligence" by Grant would seem to rule it out if correct.

Question: has any WWI U-Boat history specialist addressed this theory specifically (the Jones books is fairly new, 1998, but apparently even at the time this was assumed to have been a collision with a U-boat)? Any other thoughts? Thanks.
