Thanks. One misunderstanding about my original note though, Jones says the collision occured in the Pentland Firth, that is the strait between the Orkney's and the northern tip of Scotland. NY was headed west along it toward the southern entrance to Scapa Flow after a sortie north of the Orkney's. She docked at Rosyth on the Firth of Forth to repair the damage. Subs would have transited the Pentland Firth to and from the Irish Sea unless they sailed north of the Orkney's instead.
