HMT Calvia

Hi all !

Have had a letter from an elderly British sailor inquiring about the actions in July (?) 1918 of HMT Calvia and HMS (HMY ?)Vanessa which resulted in the sinking (?) of UB107, off the NE coast of England . (There seemed to be some uncertainty as to whether it was the Calvi or the Calvia, but I think the latter looks more likely; the Calvi seems to be a quite different vessel from WW2.)

The questions are a) does anyone know any details of the action and the identities of the English vessels involved ? and b) does anyone know anything about the captain of the Calvia - who was he and did he receive any decoration for his part in the action ?

A long shot, I know, but any information would be very gratefully received by my correspondent.

Thanks in advance ! Frank
