Mate,
It appears that U Boats like the British E Boat's in the sea of Marmuna inter possed there mark on the campaigne.
There sinking's of Warships and merchant's struck a serious problem with the Royal Navy but they never competly stopped the follow of supplies or the use of warships supporting our ground forces.
They did stop these large warships from sitting off the coast and doing what they wanted to.
So there use was limited in the campaigne but very effective at times.
