My great-grandfather (Donald Fraser) was capt of the Hirano Maru when she was torpedoed by UB91, 3 days out of Liverpool. It was NYK's worst WW1 disaster. There's an NYK memorial to her crew and passengers, and their other losses, at the Cherry Blossom Temple in Osaka.
