Hello!
Are all these facts?
1. Promised payment of a bounty to any merchantman sinking an enemy submarine
2. The Rutherglen reportedly and officially sank a u boat =>"the true identity of RUTHERGLEN’s victim was kept secret for fifty years" thus was allowed bounty
3. The Rutherglen received bounty for sinking a u boat =>"the crew received their ‘blood money’"
4. The H-5 was the ship actually sunk
5. The H-5 sank the U-51 in 1916 => uboat.net U51 info page
6. The crew of the H-5 were dead in 1919 =>"crew of H5 was already dead"
My questions:
A-Who was the bounty paid to if it was all kept a secret and the crew of the H-5 was dead?
B-Was the crew of the Rutherglen paid for sinking which u boat?
C-Was the rutherglen paid for U 51 although it sank the H-5?
D-How is the u 51 relevant in this story if the Rutherglen´s supposed victim isn´t named?
The text would seem so much more logical if the "final twist of fate" was that the Rutherglen´s crew received the blood money for the sinking of a U boat, which in reality was the H-5. I´m sorry for being difficult, I can´t seem to find the logic in all of it. A fascinating story on the rawness of warfare, nevertheless.
