Hello Everyone,
I'm actually looking for this information in reverse. My anscestory of sorts (through marriage only) was Captain Emery Rice, who was Captain of the US Mongolia, and was the first steamship, while under his command in WWI, to possible sink the first German U-Boat for the US. At least that is what the articles about him say, however there isn't too much that I can find on him. In one of the articles it was rummored that Germany had a bounty out on his head, because he and his crew were pretty successfull at sinking the German U-Boats. The US governement once asked him how many he had sunk so far, and he replied that that was confidential information and he could not answer the question. He was also in the Spanish-American War, and was the one who wigwagged Sampson letting Sampson know that the "spanards are espcaping". In 1919 they placed the flag he waved to Sampson in the museum at Harvard, but I haven't been able to find out if its still there. He was also decorated by a Mikado for sailing out during a Tusani to save 5 men from a sinking vessel. He made I believe over 40 crossing during his lift time, which was saddly cute short.
If anyone can help me find any further info on him it would be greatly appreicated. He had a sister in New York, but I don't believe she and her husband had any children. And he had to two brothers who lived in the West, that is all the info I can find on them.
Thanks!
