Hello Nom Anor
Interesting, how errors get repeated. I guess that's the way of it.
You asked earlier for details of the faults with U 47. I have only notes from the KTB 15 June to 12 September 1918, but I would guess they are indicative:
15/6-30/6 Docks for unspecified repairs, Pola
1/7-13/7 Unspecified repairs, Pola
17/7 Heavy hatch leakage during sea tests
18/7-26/7 Repairs to hatch sealing, Pola
27/7-28/7 Slight hatch leaks in sea trials
29/7 Retightened hatch
31/7 Diving practice trialling new wire cutter which accidently cuts Austrian cables
4/8 Trouble with trimming
6/8 Breakage of water cooling pipe at sea and 'damage to other vital parts' while at sea
7/8-9/8 Repair of water cooling pipe, Cattaro
11/8 Portside electric engine turned off because a gear is running hot; water through the oil hatch which cannot be sealed. Forced to return because of leaking hatch.
12/8 Repairs not possible at Cattaro.
13/8 Fixed small engine fault at Spalato (Split)
15/8 14 days of repairs at Pola
1/9 Tests at Brioni Island (near Pola)
4/9-5/9 Engine repairs, Pola
6/9-7/9 Engine tests
8/9-12/9 Docks for repairs
9/9 Boat unable to return to Germany because of leaking hatch and faulty engine
Best wishes
Chris
