I presume that would be off the 'Cromarty Firth' rather than off 'Cromarty' as it would be risky actually going through the narrows into the Firth. Much safer to torpedo as they approach the narrows.
Obvious Scapa Flow did show that U-Boats could get through to Scape Flow but Cromarty Firth is much more restrictive.
