Reeducation

<HTML>Although the whole concept of reeducation was the height of arrogance, it is not responsible for the current situation. Reeducation ended in the late 1940s and a lot of Germans took it as a big joke. Adenauer did a good job under the circumstances and there was still patriotism then. In fact, even the Social Democrats were patriotic in the early 1950s. Adenauer also managed to get the EEC going without giving up the store. It was his successors who gave away the farm needlessly. Note that if the SPD had been in power in 1990, we would still have 2 German states.

The real problem came with the \'68 generation, first with the protests and then more so when they got into power. It was the \'68 generation who derailed the de Gaulle/Adenauer concept of a Europe of the fatherlands. Political correctness is a problem everywhere in the west, but its effect on Germany is disastrous for historical reasons. About the only country which has managed to extricate itself somewhat from PC is the US as shown by the Bush win.
