Dear Harry,
the figures you report are, generally speaking, correct. When Italy entered war the Regia Marina (= Royal Italian Navy) had 117 submarines but some were training boats or even WW1 leftovers. If you wish to go a bit deeper :-) in that topic I suggest to have a look of the following URLs in order to get a general overwiew:
or search in the Net with the keywords \"Regia Marina\" and/or \"Sommergibili Italiani\" and, last but not least, this very Forum with keywords “Italian Submarines campaign” and “Italian submarine deficiencies”
About tonnage sunk, the following are the Commanders’ esteemed figures, listed by boat’s name:
Da Vinci 123.000
Tazzoli 104.000
Torelli 63.000
Malaspina 56.000
Cappellini 46.000
Marconi 42.000
Archimede 42.000
Barbarigo 38.900
Morosini 38.000
Calvi 36.900
Bagnolini 29.000
Finzi 26.000
Giuliani 26.000
Emo 25.000
Bianchi 20.000
Mocenigo 20.000
Velella 19.000
Brin 17.000
Cagni 11.000
Veniero 10.000
Dandolo 10.000
Nani 8.500
Baracca 8.500
Marcello 5.600
Argo 5.000
Otaria 4.600
Unconventional underwater attacks sunk or damaged 77.000 tons of Navy hardware and 130.000 tons of Merchant Marine tools.
Greetings and "Buone Feste!"
