and exercise special care in the words spelling:
La Spezia, base militare, base sommergibili, seconda guerra mondiale.
I already had a look and I have to admit that few information in English is available on the Net on that subject. Anyway La Spezia is still an active Navy base and they are pretty secretive about their past, present and future business. I would not marvel if you find the most interesting information on a Russian site.
