<HTML>Hi Jack,
To yours first questions:
Point 1: As ex-chief of staff in a navy, I preffer a small staff, more busy that a big one too soft. And Uboat forces are a small military force in a such world fight.
point 2: What motivated the soldiers of french légion at Camerone figth? and what motivated US marines in Vietnam, at the end, and what motivated soldiers in the worl defending our countries when it was clear that they have not any chance?
When you are soldiers (or officers) in a war, you know something but not all things and your fight must make progress diplomatic agreements, or protected the move of another troups or civilians out of fights..........
In case of Uboat, their fights after may 1943, checked the avance of allied troups and do you mind the other end of the war, for Europa, if german soldiers and seamen would stopped the fight in may 43? And the history of modern german country in this case? Please, don't do again the history by only one consider of a very complex thing like a war.
regards</HTML>
