<HTML>Hi All
I'm NOT SURPRISED to read here another fate of U-boat raising in the near future?
This wreck is a WAR GRAVE, and should be left in peace, just like any other war grave wreck sites around the world today.
Anyway, this boat was an IXC-40 Type U-boat under the command of
KL Helmut Henning from Nov-1942 -16/10/1943.
U-533 sunk on 16/10/1943 ENE of Al Fujayrah (25*28'N 56*50'E) after an enemy aircraft was sighted from U-533 and she began to submerge.
The boat's stern was still visible as the aircraft's pilot (Sgt L Chapman) then dropped four depth-charges on U-533 and made a U-boat 'Kill'.
The commander of U-533 and 51 crew members were lost and the solitary crew survivor was later picked up and made a PoW after spending some 28 hours in the sea.
