<HTML>Can anyone tell me where U-109 was on Aug. 6/7-1942? Some of my Norwegian sources claim D/S Breñas was sunk by this boat and the captain taken prisoner (for 5 weeks). I've always used U-108 in the captain's story on my website, but this question has come up again in the form of E-mails to me, and I would like to be able to eliminate one or the other. Breñas was on a voyage from Ceara and Maranham, Brazil bound for New York via Trinidad, having departed Maranham on Aug. 2-1942. The survivors' report gives the position as 274° true 300 miles from Trinidad for the attack, Rohwer gives position 10 20N 56 10W (U-108). One of my clues has been the fact that there's a statement in one of my books that the American tanker Louisiana was sunk while the captain was on the U-boat, and according to Rohwer this ship was also sunk by U-108.
