<HTML>To add from this from the book \"Portsmith Built\"
The Japanese were aviation experts and commited suicide by drinking Luminal.
At least one of the German civilians was a V2 rocket technician.
One of the Luftwaffe Generals was Ulrich Kessler who had directed the 1939 Poland Blitz.
The Americans gave a lot of attention to the U-234\'s snorkel. According to the book, the snorkel of the U-234 supplied air only to the diesels, not the men.
The mercury was not found until the boat was stripped. It had been stored in iron flasks between the inner and outer hulls on either side of the keel, where it served as ballast. At the time it was worth $5 million dollars.
The book lists its sources as the Portsmith Herald, July 2, 1945; May 17, 1975; and November 14, 1982</HTML>
