<HTML>John--Looks like you\'ve got good info on U-234 now--all I can add is this:
There were 13 U-boats that came to Portsmouth Navy Shipyard after the war.
Four (already mentioned, including U-234) surrendered there; U-505, which came in at the same time, was the only one not scrapped or sunk. Seven were sunk off the coast of New Hampshire and Massachusetts, either by torpedo or artillery, in depths between 500 - 600 feet. (Also including U-234). Others that were sunk: U-977 (Werner\'s 60-day-submerged attempt to seek internment in Argentina), U-530 (also returned to the US after surrendering in Brazil), U-805, U-1228, U-858, & U-889. Two type XXI\'s came in, U-3008 and U-2513; U-3008 was ultimately scrapped, and U-2513 was sunk off Florida, raised and sunk again in the Potomac River. Two or three others were brought to PNSY via freighters; the experiemntal type XVII U-10xx (rats--I can\'t remeber its number) and one or two midget subs (one of which was displayed in front of the base gymnasium until the late 50\'s and is now buried in the capped landfill at the Yard)--JR</HTML>
