<HTML>Jeff,
I would like to clear up some inaccuracies in your research about my uncle, GuyHardt Goodboe. Of course, I am named after him and remember him from when I was a little boy during the war.

My uncle was not a JU-87 pilot. He was a rather famous FW-190 fighter pilot with 239 confirmed kills. 33 of those were during a two day period during the Battle of Britain. According to my aunt, my uncle considered bomber aircraft \" At best a machine for sissies who lack the courage to go to war!\"

He was never shot down. His engine failed while over Poland during the winter of 1942. He spend the next 17 days evading capture. He finally made it to Switzerland, where he was returned to Germany via a \"diplomatic trip\" for the German Embassy.

After this event, while on recreation in Germany, he met several u boat crews. ( I gather this must have been in some bier halls or the like from what family knowledge I have.) One of the commanders was so impressed with his knowledge of u boat strategy and tactics that he wrote an introduction to Admiral Doenitz.
(This may have been where you got the U 99 reference. I believe that commander authored the letter. My uncle never did serve on U 99t.....) He was put on fast track
for commander and did serve an apprentiship on U 995 in 1943/44. His reports from that commander were glowing. ( I am reading directly from the letter here...\" Intelligent, competent, ready for command...\"

He was given command of U 666, and completed 4 patrols, sinking a total of 17 ships. He was relieved, moved to training command and told to wait for completion of U 4783. ( a type XXI boat, not XXIII)

Unfortunately, life was cut short by a stupid error. A Kreigsmarine guard was taking \"target practice\" on a seagull at a bumker in Hamburg. The bullet hit the bunker lip, bounced off two u boats in for repairs, and hit my uncle.
When Admiral Doenits called my aunt later that day, he said: \"I have lost one of my most agressive and competent commanders. \" Germany has lost one of our finest young leaders.\"

As for your picture, I hope you did not pay much for it. My aunt has all the wartime photos my uncle sent to her. Yours must be some sort of fake.

Sincerely,

Guy Wagner</HTML>
