My friend has passed away and I was unable to discuss anything further with him about details. He had related to me that he was picked up by the British and then used to help them get through the mine fields because of his knowledge of the areas. His name was Ernst Siemssen. He married an American WAC and moved to the states. He worked for Pittsburg Plate and Glass and worked his way up through the company to a management position. He jointly held patents on some of their products, he was an engineer by trade, having graduated from a German university before the war. He related how he had been used by PPG to go to Japan for negotiations with various Japanese firms and because of the fact that the Japanese executives could speak German and they could talk without the use of a translator it helped in contract negotiations.
