<HTML>Gadzooks!!!! Fin is right, \"U-571\" is NOT historically accurate AT ALL and should only be considered as a fictional action-adventure film loosely based on WWII...!!!!!!!
ANY movie one sees in the popular film genre should never be taken as historically accurate. Some have more non-fiction value than others...but few if any can be taken totally seriously. NO popular film should be accepted without reading a good history or without seeing some documentaries. Then, once you know the real story, you can perhaps enjoy a Hollywood remake, being able to note where the writers/producers/directors took liberties with the facts.
Some other examples to be wary of as far as being historically accurate...
**The Bunker (Hitler\'s last days--actually not too bad)
**JFK (very simplified, even if on the right track [being something of a historian of the assassination myself)
**Nixon
**Operation Daybreak (assassination of Heydrich--not too bad, but liberties were still taken with the actual facts)
**Patton
and many others, but these are some I still enjoy, although I know better than to \"quote\" the movies as 100% fact....
