If I get flak, so be it - but whilst this is a U boat forum, surely we\'re interested in modern day subs too? besides, the \'news\' will only appear about once every two months. Not any more regular than that.

Okay on \'Astute\'.

Actually, the keel laying is probably what the media refer to as \'ceremonially marking the boat\'. As it was constructed in sections, the laying of the keel is probably a misnomer for welding the sections together!

My source was actually \'Warships IFR\' - printed in November of 2000!

So much for the media!
