<HTML>Hello Crewmates,
Kevin Heath and Ian Trumpess have kindly asked me to keep you all up to speed with the progress,so far, since locating the remains of U297 on the seabed off the Orkney Isles.Since the discovery early in 2000 much research has been done to establish who was onboard and also the exact cause of 297s demise. The very fact that the remains of her entire crew are entombed within make it a very sensitive dive indeed.Whilst visiting the wreck both Ian and Kevin have taken great care not to disturb or even touch the smallest piece of her remains and have and will always respect this place for what it is....A WAR GRAVE.Whilst swimming around 297 video footage has been taken and from viewing the footage one can see the damage that was done to her diring the depth charge attack. The bow section is bent to port which indicates that the boat had hit the bottom with considerable force. This force was determined by the fact that her Schnorkell was ripped away allowing the sea to flood 297 and thus causing her to plummet to the bottom,Thus taking OL WOLFGANG ALDERGARMANN and his young crew on their\"eternal patrol\".The clarity of the water is remarkable even with the lighting rig switched off and on viewing further footage you can see 297 resting on the sandy bottom leaning to starboard.Part two of this story will feature in further postings.
For the moment,From Kevin Ian and Myself......Best Regards.</HTML>
