I was born in Puerto Rico in 1944. My parents lived in an apartment overlooking the Atlantic near San Juan. They claim that the U-boats sank many of the ships bringing food to Puerto Rico from New York (over 50%). My parents watched the Air Force drop depth charges on the U-boats, but nowhere on this web site can I find mention of an U-boat in the Caribean being destroyed by these charges. Do you know anything of these activities. These naval skirmishes were a big event for my family during the war. In 1979 I went to the Science museum in Munich and saw a U-boat. I was amazed that men would sit inside that small tube in the middle of the Atlantic to threaten our lives.
