<HTML>Hi Mimi and SUB-MOVIE ENTHUSIASTS,
I\'ve seen Das Boot in the following versions:
1. First Das Boot presented in US - German Language, English sub-titles - about 2 hours. (Theatre)
2. English Language except for singing portions - about 2 hours. (on TV)
3. German Language Only - about 3 hours plus on two video cassettes. Available from Best Buy (Used to be on Foreign Film shelf - now special order.).
Being Bilingual brought laughter in theatre watching #1 by me before subtitles were read and understood by English-only persons. Discovered that often translations were \"off\", completely wrong or missed humor. This was also true of #2. However, #3 with some added footage, no translations is really great. Nobodies fault on translations though because sometimes there are no real equals; for example, there is no really single word English translation of the German \"Gemütlichkeit\" (E-G Dictionary lists all that included in this unique G word). Most likely, most \"english-onlies\", per se, don\'t understand this happening either; ie, they don\'t know or understand being Gemütlich as a group - large or small. Ces la vie!</HTML>
