Doenitz as successor

<HTML>I don\'t know what Hitler thought of the technical and strategic capabilities of U-Boats, but certainly by the end of the war he had a very high respect for the men that crewed them, .e.g. choosing Doenitz as his successor as Fuhrer. By the way, I think Hitler handled his boats very well as Commander-in-Chief, especially when he refused to get drawn into a shooting war with the USA during the months in late 1941 when Roosevelt (under a phoney cover of neutrality) was desperately trying to provoke a fight with Germany by attacking the U-Boats.</HTML>
