In 1945 U776 was brought to the River Tyneyne at Newcastle. I layed truant from school to go aboard and inspect her.
Her captain was, I believe, Lothar Martin, and I may have met him as well. two German naval oficers in full uniform were looking at shop windows in the city at about that time.. As a schoolboy I was too shy to speak to them of course!
U776 was, I believe, scuttled later along with other war material. As for Captain Lothar Martin and his crew, i wondered if anuwere still around, living in Germany or elsewhere.
Can anyone add any bagkground to this old memory?
