I agree with your remarks entirely. As you say Ken Dunn, as always makes the point and a good one at that. His postings are always worth reading.

The German Naval Officers of the period mentioned were first and foremost seaman and damn fine ones at that. When one reads of some of the feats they performed both against the enemy and the sea, who is friend to none, in such small craft as a Uboat there seamanship was superb. I know that some of them held Admiral Lord Nelson in the highest regard.

I have met a number of German Naval Officers, and I would class all of them as Officers and Gentlemen......officers in the Royal Navy cannot be classed as Gentleman which is why they always have to carry their swords (thanks to Queen Victoria)

As you say, "History is always written by the victors". To put it another way "Victory has a hundred fathers, defeat is an orphan"
