Hi Mike and Mark
When U-109 (Korv.Kapt. HANS-Georg Fisher returned to Lorient in May 1941 the BDU greeted all the officers with a handshake. Then Dönitz placed himself about 15 paces
from the front rank and folded his arms across his chest. His lips were suddenly
narrow. " Your patrol was crap, and you know it YOUR 7000 tons wasn't much, you will have to do better." Then Dönitz smiled and his voice was concillatory as he continued, But at least you brought the boat back. I suppose that's worth something." Dönitz got the nickname of "the Lion" and sometimes the sailors referred to him as "Onkel Karl".
